Minji
I’m walking towards home when I suddenly feel someone from behind me. It surprises me as I feel his gloved hand around my mouth as he pulls me away. My first reaction is to squirm in his grasp but I try to remember my training. Squirming around will only tire me out and might make it more dangerous for me.
I calm down as he leads me towards the alley. As soon as he goes to put me down, I elbow him in the stomach and he groans loudly, letting me go. I use my elbow once more to hit him in the face before he quickly removes his mask, forcing me to a freeze mid-way.
‘Stop stop it’s me!!’ Mr. Oh says. I hold my arm just inches away from his face as I stare at him. I see his face still twisting in pain as he holds onto his stomach.
‘What the hell are you doing dragging me into an alley?’ I almost scream at him. He motions for me to be quiet as he quickly puts his mask back on and pulls me further in. It’s clear he doesn’t want anyone to see him with me. ‘Are you going to tell me what you think you’re doing?’ I ask, a little annoyed by his actions as we stop.
‘I had forgotten how bad your temper is but I don’t blame you. I know you don’t trust me but I have some information you need to know about. I know about Sung Yoona.’ He says and I stare at him at him confused.
‘What do you mean by that?’ I ask and I see him gulp. ‘Mr. Oh either be clear with me or get out of my way.’ I say and he sighs.
‘You were right … it wasn’t just an accident.’ He says and my eyes go wide. My brain starts to formulate so many questions – how do you know what I thought? How do you know about Yoona? How do you know it’s not an accident? Why are you telling me this? ‘I know you must have a lot of questions right now but I can’t answer most of them. I just came to warn you.’ He says.
‘Warn me? About what? Nothing is making sense right now Mr. Oh.’ I say and he sighs again. He looks around, almost as if afraid that someone might overhear him.
‘I overheard a conversation and I feel obliged to tell you. She’s still in danger. They want to get rid of her before she remembers anything so they’re sending someone to kill her. I don’t know who or when. They know about you as well. They know you’re trying to find out what happened.’ He says.
‘Who Mr. Oh? Who is they?’ I ask as I grab his arm. I feel my heart beating faster at the thought that someone wants to hurt Yoona – no, not just hurt her but kill her – shut her up before she can remember and say anything. It continues to confirm my suspicions – except it’s worse than I even thought.
‘I can’t tell you Minji. If I do, I can make myself a target and it could place Byung in danger.’ He says and I frown.
‘You’re right. I understand Mr. Oh. Tell me this – are there corrupt cops included?’ I ask and he sighs.
‘I think so. I mean they are influential enough to have someone in their pocket. You’re asking because they quickly dismissed it as an accident and didn't investigate further, right?’ He asks and I nod. ‘There’s someone watching her as well.’ He says and I curse under my breath. ‘I’m telling you because you saved my son. You reminded me that there are still good people in this world. That girl doesn’t deserve to die.’ He says and I nod.
‘Thank you for the warning. I’ll let the others know, see what we can do about it.’ I say. ‘I really do appreciate it.’ I say and he nods before he begins to walk away. I let him leave before I too start to walk away and head towards the hospital instead of home as I call Hoseok.
‘Hey Minji is everything okay?’ He asks and I gulp.
‘Oppa – I’m on my way to the hospital. Someone just approached me to give me a warning. He said he overheard a conversation about someone wanting Yoona dead and they’re going to send someone but I don’t have details.’ I say.
‘What did you just say?’ He asks. I hear something dropping as he begins to run. ‘I just stepped out of the room to get her some food. I’ll call you back.’ He says as he hangs up. I begin to run towards the hospital, the bad feeling in my stomach growing.
Hoseok
I drop the food on the floor as I start to run from the canteen towards Yoona’s room. What did she mean someone wants her dead? What kind of people did she get involved with? I see a couple of people giving me weird looks as they see me running but I couldn’t care any less.
I reach Yoona’s room which is in the top floor since it’s the VIP room. She’s away from everyone else so she can have privacy but that means that unless something medical happens, they wouldn’t know. I run inside and stop for a moment as I see a man there, dressed in doctor’s clothes. His face is covered with a mask and his hands are gloved. He looks a bit awkward but I relax for a moment as he freezes with the injection in his hand. ‘Is everything okay?’ He asks as he straightens up, his hand reaching slowly to his back. Something doesn’t feel right about this doctor… or maybe I am getting paranoid.
‘Yeah, yeah I just wanted to be next to her.’ I say as I look at Yoona who is waking up. She groans as she stretches her arms and then looks at me.
‘Oh hey Hoseok… sorry I fell asleep. I must have been more tired than I thought.’ She says as she gives me an apologetic look.
‘That’s okay.’ I say as I approach her and sit on the bed next to her. I grab her hand and turn to look at the doctor who is still standing there. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think he looked *ed. ‘Doctor is everything okay?’ I ask. He clears his throat and nods.
‘Yes, yes, everything is fine.’ He says as he looks at the injection in his hand. I remember Minji’s warning – someone wants Yoona dead and they’re going to send someone to do it. The uneasy feeling about this doctor returns. Something about him just doesn’t feel right and it’s not just my paranoia. Everything about him screams for me to be careful. I’ve seen the doctors that are tending to her and he is not one of them. None of them wear masks and gloves when they come to visit her and it’s never the doctor who does the actual medicine administration but one of the nurses.
‘What’s that for?’ I ask, pointing to the injection. He starts to move slowly, his hand reaching for his back once more. I can’t help but tense up. Yoona seems to notice as she squeezes my hand.
‘Um it’s for the pain.’ He replies.
‘But I was given a doze twenty minutes ago.’ Yoona argues. The man sighs as he suddenly pulls out a gun. My eyes go wide but my body reacts fast as I take a protective stance in front of her. ‘Hoseok what’s going on? Who is this man?’ She asks scared.
‘You were supposed to go and get food but you had to make things complicated. It doesn't matter if I kill one or two - I have a job to finish.’ He says in an annoyed voice as he his grip grows tighter on the gun.
‘No!’ I yell as I run to him, pushing him into the wall. He drops the injection but doesn’t let go of the gun. I try to grab a hold of it but he doesn’t let go. I hear Yoona screaming as I try to fight him off but he’s stronger and a much better fighter than I am. He punches me across the face, sending me reeling a couple of steps. He goes to shoot at me but I duck just as the first shot is heard. It hits against the door frame and sends wood splinters flying.
‘HOSEOK!!’ Yoona screams. I see him going to aim his gun at her and I tackle him once more as I go to punch him. It connects to his face, drawing the gun away from Yoona but he elbows me in the face, blinding me with pain for a moment.
He goes to hit me again but although I’m not a good fighter, I’m quick on my feet. I manage to avoid being hit in the face as I grab at his arms. I slam it against the wall a couple of times, forcing him to let go of the gun. He drops it and as he does, he hits me with his head.
I fall to the ground, searing pain taking over. I watch him as he grabs the gun once more. ‘This isn’t personal sweetie.’ He says as he cocks the gun and aims it at Yoona. I look for her for a brief second – her eyes are fixed on the gun. No… this time I will protect you. I gather all my strength as I go to push him away. He turns his gun and then I hear a loud echoing noise of the gun shot.
‘NO!! HOSEOK!!!’ Yoona screams as I hold onto him as I feel the pain in my side. My hand goes to my side as I feel the blood starting to pour out between my fingers. I can’t help but groan in pain. I look at Yoona who stares at me. I see the fear and panic in her eyes as she shakes her head. She isn’t scared for herself right now – she’s scared for me. I hear the door opening as I fall to my knees and onto the ground. I look up and see Minji there who looks at me with wide eyes.
‘You’ve got to be *ing kidding me.’ He says as he goes to shoot in her direction. She’s quick as she ducks away, hiding behind the bed.
‘No… Minji…’ I gasp out. I can’t let her get hurt. He goes to follow her but I grab his ankle. I hear him frown as he goes to point his gun at me.
‘You don’t know when to quit do you?’ He asks, ready to shoot.
‘NO!!’ Yoona screams just as Minji jumps over the bed and tackles him as she pushes him against the wall. It takes him by surprise as he drops the gun to the floor. He goes to hit her but he underestimates her. He doesn’t know she’s a good fighter. She avoids his hit and uses her leg to kick him in the chest. He wheezes, clearly feeling her hit.
‘You’re not bad, I’ll give you that. It’s a pity I’ll have to kill you too.’ He says and she tilts her head.
‘I’m not going to make it easy for you.’ She replies as she pulls her hands in a defense position as he goes to punch her. She moves away and manages to use her hand to hit him in the throat. He coughs loudly before he glares at her.
‘*… you’re going to pay for that.’ He says. I try to crawl and stand up to help but I feel so weak.
‘Minji… be careful…’ I say. She manages to go behind him and kick him behind his knee, forcing him to stagger. She goes to kick him again, hitting him in the jaw with her foot.
She goes to hit him once more but he grabs her arm and twists it behind her back. She lets out a cry and he twists it even higher. He grabs her hair as he smashes her head into the mirror. It shatters and she cries out in pain. He turns her around and I see the blood pouring from her face. She looks dizzy but she tries to fight him off again.
‘Mi…Minji!!’ I try to say as I see her use her leg to kick at him. He holds her leg and then slams her into the floor, the back of her head hitting the floor hard. She lets out a painful cry and I see him snickering as he hovers above her. His hands go around her neck as he begins to choke her. ‘No…’ I say as Yoona screams.
‘No… no… it’s me you want to kill.’ She screams at him but he doesn’t listen. I see Minji trying to push him off but I can hear her grasping for air as she tackles his face. She manages to remove his mask. Her legs * as her oxygen supply gets cut off. I see the gun and I crawl next to it. I grab it and aim it at him. My hands are trembling, never having held a gun before. Minji sees me.
‘D—do-it.’ She struggles to say before she lets out an unearthly sound. I pull the trigger.
There’s another loud ring as it fires. I see his body * back while Minji grasps for air loudly as she begins to cough violently. The hitman holds at his arm when I hear running footsteps approaching. He seems to hear it too.
‘*.’ He says as he breaks into a run and leaves the room. I drop the gun as I feel myself getting weaker. Minji crawls next to me, one hand on her neck and I look at her.
‘Are—you—you okay?’ I ask and she nods. She has a pretty deep cut on her eyebrow and she has blood covering half her face from the cut. She looks at me and sees the gunshot wound.
‘Oppa.’ She says with trembling lips as guards, doctors and nurses come rush in. ‘He’s hurt. He’s been shot.’ She says as the doctor nods.
‘I’ll—be okay.’ I say trying to reassure her. She starts to cry and I look up at Yoona who is also crying. ‘You’re—safe.’ I say which seems to make her cry more.
Jimin
Jin is speeding more than usual as we make our way to the hospital after Yun called. ‘What did she say exactly?’ Jungkook asks, getting worried. A few minutes ago Yun called Yoongi sounding panicked about a weird call from Minji who told her to get everyone at the hospital. Few moments later, we were in the van as we picked her up.
‘I’m not sure. She said someone warned her that someone wants Yoona dead and she was on her way to the hospital. She told us to meet her there.’ Yun explains. I grab my phone as I try to call her again. They look at me with expecting eyes but I shake my head.
‘She’s still not responding.’ I say as I gulp. ‘It’s not like her to not answer her phone.’ I say. Jungkook nods in agreement. Oh God please be okay Minji. I think to myself.
‘Hoseok isn’t answering either.’ Yoongi says, the ominous feeling growing. Jin starts to speed even more. We arrive at the hospital and get out of the van but stop as we see police cars surrounding the place and I also see a bunch of reporters.
‘What the hell is going on now?’ I mutter as I feel my phone vibrate. I go to check if it’s a message from Minji but it’s a notification. The title grabs my attention as I grab Namjoon who is next to me.
ATTEMPTED MURDER ON CHOREOGRAPHER IN SEVERANCE HOSPITAL. TWO INJURED.
‘*.’ Namjoon mutters as he reads it out loud. We all look at each other, wanting to get inside the hospital.
‘Wait there is a backdoor. We can go through there.’ Yun says suddenly as she starts jogging while we all follow her. She was right about it as we avoid the chaos there as we manage to get inside. We see cops by the elevators so we decide to take the stairs instead. I can’t help but just hurry in front. Two injured – I keep thinking about that and it makes my heart beat faster. Injured? How? And to what extent? What kind of injuries?
We finally reach the top floor, all of us out of breath. I see two cops by Yoona’s door. We approach them and one of them holds his hand up. ‘You can’t go in.’ He says and I glare at him.
‘What are you talking about? My girlfriend and our friends are in there.’ I yell.
‘His girlfriend is my sister. We need to talk to them.’ Jungkook says but he shakes his head.
‘Please. We just need to make sure they’re okay. Look you can ask them.’ Namjoon says. The cop looks at the other one who nods.
‘Wait here.’ He orders as he opens the door and goes in. I look at the other one who looks straight on. He’s wearing his full uniform and I see the gun at the side as I realize how serious things are. The door opens again and the cop walks out.
‘You can go in but the door remains open.’ He orders and I nod as I push past him and go in. My eyes go wide as I see the mess in the room – the mirror smashed, the blood on the floor, the hole in the door. My eyes scan the room as I see Yoona on the bed staring at the wall. She looks absolutely terrified. I look over at Minji who is in the corner, standing against the wall.
'Minji!' I exclaim as I see the cuts on her face. She has a pretty bad cut next to her eye and it's bleeding quite a bit.
I run next to her as I go to touch her face and she winces. 'Wh-what happened?' I ask.
'Someone was sent to kill Yoona. ' She says as her eyes don't leave Yoona. She looks confused and scared but unharmed. 'I tried to stop him.' She says and I turn my attention back to Minji as I see her balling her hands into fists angrily. It's almost like she is angry at herself for not catching him.
'It's okay Minji. It's over now. She's safe, you're safe.' Jungkook says as he comes next to her and touches her arm. She looks at him and sighs.
‘We are but Hoseok isn’t.’ She says. I can hear the actual fear in her voice as she says that.
‘What do you mean Minji?’ Namjoon asks. She closes her eyes, gulps loudly as she looks at us.
‘I got here too late. Hoseok’s been shot and has been taken to the emergency room.’ She says. My eyes go wide and I hear Yun gasping. Taehyung slams his fist against the door and I hear Yoona yelp. Tae’s gaze immediately softens as he approaches her.
‘I’m sorry noona. I didn’t mean to scare you.’ He says but Yoona shakes her head.
‘This is all my fault. He… he was trying to protect me and I couldn't do anything except sit and watch because of my legs. I'm *ing useless.’ She screams as she hits her legs repeatedly among tears. Taehyung grabs her arms and hugs her quickly as he rubs her back.
‘Don't say that and of course he would protect you. He loves you noona.’ Taehyung says, trying to comfort her. I look back at Minji who has red marks all over her throat. They look like choke marks. I see her squeeze her eyes for a moment as she almost loses her balance.
‘Hey! Minji.’ I say as I grab her by the arm. Jungkook is quick to react as well as he grabs her other arm and helps to support her.
‘Sis? Are you okay?’ He asks and she groans. He looks at me with worried eyes. 'Minji what's wrong?' He asks again.
‘I’m a little dizzy.’ She admits. Jin brings her a chair and we sit her down. ‘He smashed my head against the mirror.’ She says as she goes to touch her wound.
‘Don’t touch it.’ I say as I take her hand in mine. ‘What are we going to do?’ I ask as I turn to Namjoon who looks worried. He looks at the two girls and then at the door.
‘We split up. Jungkook, you and Yoongi and Yun stay here. The rest of us will go to the emergency room and wait for news on Hoseok.’ He says and I nod.
‘Please let us know as soon as you know something.’ Yun says and Namjoon nods. I watch as he, Jin and Taehyung leave together as a nurse walks in with a bowl of lukewarm water and some stuff for Minji. I move slightly away but still not letting go of her hand. I watch as the nurse cleans her wound to reveal a deep cut above her eyebrow. The nurse begins to stitch up her wound.
‘You’re lucky it didn’t catch your eye.’ She tells her and Minji sighs. ‘You’re a strong girl.’ The nurse says and Minji smiles a bit but behind her smile I see a lot of thoughts going on. As soon as the nurse finishes, we’re left alone with the girls. Yun and Yoongi are next to Yoona, trying to comfort her. She looks dazed and Minji seems to follow my gaze.
‘She was given medication to calm her down because she was under shock. It must have started to work.’ Minji says and I nod. ‘Jimin can you come with me?’ She asks and I nod. I help her up as we go to walk out.
‘Where are you going ma’am? You know you can’t leave this room for now.’ The cop says gently. I know this is his job but it still *es me off.
‘I just need to use the bathroom. My boyfriend is taking me. I’ll be right back I promise.’ She says and he sighs before he nods. We reach the bathroom and then she pulls me into a cubicle and locks the door. ‘Listen to me Jimin. Mr. Oh found me earlier and told me that he overheard someone planning this. He was thinking like me that there might be some cops included in it.’ She says and I stare at her.
‘Mr. Oh? Cops? Minji what’s going on? I feel so confused right now. I just can’t understand why someone would want her dead.’ I say.
‘To shut her up before she remembers. It must be someone important or rich enough. The assassin was dressed like a doctor – I think he was going to use this to kill her.’ She says as she pulls out an injection from her hoodie pocket. ‘We can’t trust the police, at least not ones we don’t know. I need you to hold on to that for me. My appa can help us identify what is in it.’ She says.
‘Minji I don’t like you getting involved in this. Hoseok is fighting for his life right now and you’ve almost been killed as well.’ I say as I touch her neck gently. She sighs and touches my face.
‘I don’t have a choice Jimin. I’m already too involved in this. He saw my face and…’ She stops as she bites her lower lip.
‘And what? What are you leaving out Min?’ I ask as I look at her. She looks around, almost as if she is afraid someone might hear her.
‘I saw his face. I can identify who he is if I see him.’ She says. I stare at her as I frown. If she saw his face, she might be a target. He might come after her before she can reveal who he is. ‘There’s something else too. Mr. Oh said that they know about me making the connections. It’s too late to back out now.’ She says and I sigh.
‘Aish this is crazy. Who are these people?’ I ask and she shrugs.
‘I don’t know but I plan to find out. Don’t worry about me. I’ll be careful and I’ll work with Appa. He’ll know what to do.’ She argues. It’s almost like I can see her making a plan already.
‘You can't ask me not to worry. I still do jagi. Do you know how scared I was when I saw the article saying two got injured? I don’t know how to keep you safe from these people.’ I say, barely able to look at her.
‘It’s not your job to keep me safe jagi. We need to focus on keeping Yoona safe for now. She’s the real target. We cannot leave her on her own for no reason.’ She says.
‘Neither should you. I’ll talk to Bang and the hyungs, have the three of you move in with us.’ I say. ‘I’m sure the others will agree too.’ I say and she nods.
‘We’re going to figure things out. I promise Jimin.’ She says. ‘Let’s go before the cops start getting suspicious.’ She says. I nod as I take the injection and place it in my jacket. She goes to open the door but I hold her wrist and turn her back around. I crash my lips against hers and she kisses me back immediately.
‘I love you so much Minji. I can’t lose you! Do you understand?’ I ask and she nods.
‘I understand and you won’t lose me. I love you too Jimin.’ She says.
